Bismillah.

Mid-semester break sem 1 2017/2018.

//Raw post, grammatical errors and typos are to be expected.

It was raining cats and dogs. I went into the airport along with mama and adik. Just to send them off.
Bought coffee for me and bapak. The rain started to slow down. Later, we're already on our way back to Kota Belud. Mama called less than 15 minutes after we hit the road. Reminding to keep bapak awake while driving, afraid if bapak was so tired that he'll be sleepy. I said yes okay, don't worry, I'll chat with bapak.

We never really did those before, having a proper chat. so it was kinda awkward but with my mind always being loud, it was not that awkward for me (there're always some BGM and thoughts in my mind - ridiculous and silly ones haha).

I started to ask questions, just so to get the chat longer, because bapak is the kind of guy with short and simple replies.
"Kita kat kawasan mana dah bapak?"
"hm, baru lepas Tuaran ni"
"Oh, memang lalu Tuaran eh, Ooo"
"haah, macam KLIA dengan Sg. Besi la"

*we passed by a stadium, bapak points his finger somewhere*

"Tu stadium Likas"
"mana"
"yg ada spotlight tu"
"oh, besar jugak"
"haah, kira mcm stadium Bukit Jalil la, selalu orang main kat situlah"
"Ooo"

Suddenly we get into a topic - where bapak used to school at, and how were things going on back then.
"Dulu jalan tak macam ni, dulu lalu kat dalam hutan tu" *points his finger at the forest beside the road (literally, forest, jungle)
"Oh, macam masa kecik2 dulu, lalu situ kan? ingat lagi.."
"haah, time korang kecik, balik kampung ikut jalan tu la.. gelap betul jalan dia"

I want to keep what bapak said in mind, but I'm afraid it will burn down, so I'm writing it down here.
Bapak said, he attended primary school at kampung, the school are already demolished now, and new school were built somewhere near, SK Peladuk. There were no electricity at kampung, not until bapak were studying at UKM. Wow. MasyaAllah, I'm amazed. I hear people say about developing countryside and such, but when it is right in front of my eyes, i am really amazed.

Then bapak entered SMK Arshad, at Pekan Kota Belud, Form 1-3, before the government offered bapak to attend Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Sabah (now Sekolah Menengah Sains KK) at KK.
One thing about being offered is that, bapak's performance in studies from primary till secondary was observed. the worst bapak ever get was no 3 out of his batch. usually he got no 1. wow my bapak is legendary. masyaAllah.

Then bapak started to tell me about his siblings (my aunts and uncle). Turns out, the first one to achieve Degree/Bachelor was bapak. Bapak is the 4 out of 6 (the 6th deceased when she was a baby), so i thought my uncle, the 2nd from 5, is the first one to have Degrees. Auntie Long didn't get hers but she was working at JKR just fine :)

My 2 other aunties were actually doing Long Distance Learning while at the same time they worked as teacher, and obtained their Degrees. Later, my uncle completed his masters and now working as a lecturer at one of institute in KK. my aunties now are working as primary school ustazah, a high school teacher, and the first one already retired.

I am amazed by their achievements, because seeing from where they begin, they really have come far. and I'm inspired to be that hard-working and persevere till the end!

Later bapak said again, he was the legend at kampung (mihihihih) as no one can beat his record on SRP (same as PT3 now) and SPM yet.so wow bapak, seriously he's a legend here. He was the first to go out of kampung too (further study at West Malaysia), i believe.

Before this, i easily am triggered by the kampung-ness as everything is so hard to comprehend- why they do this, why they do that. but now, knowing the background, i can understand (but no promise i can compromise/have high tolerance). I'm sorry for this, I'm still a human.

Lastly bapak said,
"Tu yang bapak harapkan anak-anak bapak boleh score. Bila anak-anak bapak tak dapat score, bapak rasa pelik sikit."
then i feel something, that yes, i can do this! I was raised by a legend anyway, two legends (my mama, and my bapak). though i did have a sad feeling after bapak said that.

It was a fruitful chat. we talked about career, some random things, reminiscing when i was small coming here, and also about pembahagian tanah and academic matters. I feel so happy/sad at the same time. one thing for sure, my view on bapak and my kampung, has changed.

Anything that comes my way, i hope and pray Allah will make me stronger, and make me have firm faith in Him.
